Artist's description:

Oil, pigment on canvas.

Continuing a current theme and inspired by the legacy of plant explorers; JD Hooker discovered 25 species of Rhododendron in the Himalayas and is said to have started the Rhododendron craze in the 19th century in Britain with many notable houses planting them on their estates. Kenwood house in North London has a beautiful display of Rhododendron today and it is these that form the structure of this painting. Many gardens are made up of plants brought to us by these intrepid explorers.
