Artist's description:

In the autumn the winter thrushes, fieldfares nd redwings, fly down from Scandinavia to overwinter on our milder shores. They come to take advantage of our berry crop. Look closely in the hedgerows and you'll see giant thrushes feasting in the trees.

The bird motif is a direct reference to William Morris's The Strawberry Thief.
