Artist's description:
Swan
Blue moon, black lake and one white swan. Love me now, until I am gone. Broken glass at my feet. Alone, wrapped in a cold white sheet. I will wait under the oak tree. It will always be you and me.
Words and Art by Rich Ray - Limited Edition Of 25 Canvas Prints
This technique I developed has taken several years to master. Many hours of trial and error, hundreds of mistakes, some happy and some not so much! My process involves three stages. First, I paint the abstract artwork. Second, I photograph that artwork and other textures from nature. Third, I choose the portrait or female figure photograph. I download all of the different layers into to the photo editor program.
This technology enables me to play with all the elements together. I spend many hours moving and arranging each piece, like a puzzle. I know it is finished when I have achieved the right balance. Meaning, the brightest colors, visual textures, and contrast for the final printed original artwork.
*Artwork will be printed with a signature and corresponding limited edition number.
*Note: Artwork shown in home setting is a digital rendition and may not be to scale. Please use a tape measure and use dimensions in artwork description to acquire accuracy. Due to the variance between centimeters and inches please allow I/4 inch tolerance on all finished canvas prints.
Description Of Artists Emotional and Technical Process
Emotional Process
With each piece of artwork I create there are several emotions at play. I look at the face or figure to determine if there is a story to be told. Inevitably, there always is. I feel drawn to that person in an instinctual way.
Since I don't know them personally, my process starts to expose their hidden dimensions. The soul behind the beauty. Each layer of texture adds depth to the piece. I use my acrylic paintings, ink paintings, and photography, art which I create and then photograph.
As I add layers, a hidden version reveals itself to me. I have felt and seen many emotions surface that were not there in the original photo. Sometimes fear is exposed or joy, ecstasy or sorrow. We are all human. It matters not what our outward appearance is. The soul is always striving to reveal itself just under the surface.
My hope is that people view my art as a vehicle for their own emotions to roam freely. The vulnerability of the person pictured in the artwork allows us to be vulnerable. Therefore, identifying with each piece in there own unique way.
Technical Process
Each piece of art is crafted with layers of different textures and mediums. This process has been the focus of my work for the past three years. It involves acrylic painting, design, photography, inks, oil sticks and pastels.
The final art work is designed in a photo editor program. This technology gives me creative freedom to add in my abstract paintings and photography.
