Petrykivsky painting or "Petrykivka" is a Ukrainian decorative and ornamental folk art, which was formed on Dneprovsky in the village of Petrykivka, hence the name of this art form.
Some things from patterns in the style of Petrikov painting has been preserved from the XVIII century. However, in the modern sense of this direction was created in the late XIX century — early XX century. The origin of the Petrykivka painting is connected with the Cossacks and settling Dneproshina came from Poltava, Slobozhanshchina and Podolia in the eighteenth century and the first half of the nineteenth century. However, it is unknown where and when it developed traditions that formed the basis of this direction of painting.
Petrykivka painting — not only folk art which preserves the traditions of Ukrainian housing finish, but modern painting that evolves and acquires new features.
