As a figurative painter I have an inextricable relationship to reality. Painting from observation, based on one's experience in reality can lead to beautiful decisions in paint. This piece is where the process, the decision making, of painting elevates over what is being depicted. A figure in a painting can be abstract because of the independent spots of color that composes it- but perspective and depth can be considered through abstraction as well. The painting is not beholden to reality, the reality can be beholden to the painting.
