Colour as a phenomenon was a largely influencing Geršl´s work in 1990s. Not just practically and creaticely, but theoretically. In 1996 he gave a lecture on the theme "Colour from perspective of psychological influence" at the international marketing and media meeting, 2nd Advertising Forum in Prague. The author focuses on exploring such absolute expression dimension. He believes that "he speaks a new art language", and the consciousness of such a truth helps him successfully finish everything he undertakes. Each new realisation corresponds to a new period of proving the entity. In the literal sense, it is no undounded accidental experiementing but discovering the known, localising partial manifestations of certainty to which only "transformers" own a key. We talk about a certain kind of intiuitive thinking that gradually reveals itself. Generally a formative topic of Geršl´s work and drawings is defined by relations between individual colour planes a place of which is set by multi-directional situating of given direct axis lines. Expressional effect is reached by a combination of cold and warm tones with a controlled respect to their complementary characterristics and sensitive rationally reasoned light arrangement. Colour takes on a leading role in the composition. Josef Geršl realises not only its spacial formative function, but also its active share on dynamtic structure of work. In the front comes its material essence that is a relation of impasto and glazing colour layers. "Location" of colour pigment is done in a strictly set tonality ratio of single tones.
