Artwork description:

This is a image of a Petrus Print (Biological Print) which was also overlaid on top of collected local newspaper posters - appropriated from my local shop. The idea of printing on these posters of text is to explore the use of language in the selling of a product, the soil biology that leads to life, and the integrated elements of life of which language and the written word could not have existed, without the true reality of the importance of soil microbes, the biology in soil leading to plant life and the evolution into animal forms and to humans.
It explores the importance of language: the spoken word, a sentence, a read word and how it is interpreted; a visual symbol representing an abstraction of reality, through the sounds we make and how we can draw meaning, although the meaning we take from a visual language, both as an image and a word which is an image as well, will depend upon the experiences and events we have each of us gone through during our lives.
This also responds to a polemical meaning in the sense of the current economic climate of coming out of a recession and job creation, marking a period of time known as austerity. This is loaded with a sense of new stores opening through new building, taking of land, building on previous areas of green, the covering of soil and the importance it has for our survival, the selling of food grown in soil, the price paid for expansion and capital growth and the juxtaposing of the intervention of human kind on the Earth, in making an object and placing on top of an advert.
