Artwork description:

"We are never real historians, but always near poets, and our emotion is nothing but an expression of poetry that was lost." (from Gaston Bachelard, 'The Poetics of Space').

This image, 'stardust', is from the "In Defense of Daydreaming" series, in which I am exploring the use of photography to express poetic themes. Here is a quote from Neil Gaiman's novel 'Stardust' which sums up perfectly what I want to say about it:

"He stared up at the stars: and it seemed to him then that they were dancers, stately and graceful, performing a dance almost infinite in its complexity. He imagined he could see the very faces of the stars; pale, they were, and smiling gently, as if they had spent so much time above the world, watching the scrambling and the joy and the pain of the people below them, that they could not help being amused every time another little human believed itself the centre of the world, as each of us does."

This black and white series of photographs is shot exclusively in black and white on very fine grain film, with an ancient but beloved TLR Rolleiflex camera. The film is then scanned and the final image assembled in the digital darkroom.

Please note that artwork is supplied unmounted, but a mount cut to any size can also be supplied at a small additional cost. For certain works, different size requests can be accommodated. Please contact me for details.

This artwork will be printed with a half inch white border unless otherwise requested.

All limited edition artworks now include an archival, signed limited edition label on the back of the print.

Your artwork will arrive wrapped in plenty of acid free tissue paper and rolled in a very sturdy postal tube.
