Artist's description:

The art of decorating and clothing the body, across time and cultures is fascinating to me, and a focus of some of my paintings. This is my oil painting portrait of a Hopi girl from the late 19th or early 20th century. She is wearing her hair in the "Squash Blossom" style. A sign that she is an unmarried woman ready to enter courtship.
