Albert Memorial, Kensington Gardens, May 2014.
I'm doing an en plein air drawing course at the Prince's Drawing School in London and I'm creating a large format (44 x 30ins) watercolour in one day. I wanted to paint the splendid Albert Memorial in its Plane Tree setting because it reminds me of my life as a student in the grey high rise opposite.
It's a breezy but fine day and trees are still coming into leaf - have I got time to show the gilt-edge, a bit gaudy, reflective light…?
