Original artwork description:

Papilio dardanus (the African Swallowtail, Mocker Swallowtail or Flying Handkerchief), is a species of butterfly in the family Papilionidae (the Swallowtails). It is a master of batesian mimicry. It’s supposedly called The Flying Handkerchief because it will attack a handkerchief if you throw it in the air. The species is broadly distributed throughout sub-Saharan Africa. The British entomologist E. B. Poulton described it as “the most interesting butterfly in the world”. The real butterfly has a wingspan of about 10.0 – 12.0 cm.
Painted to a true likeness in acrylic with ink added over the paint using a calligraphy nib. These small framed paintings are a bright artistic take on real mounted taxidermy butterfly specimens, a celebration of the beauty of the natural world. Framed in a 23mm wide classic flat pure matt black frame, made from solid pine. Crystal clear 2mm acrylic glazing. Shatter proof and 20% clearer than glass. The painting is signed on the front and comes with a signed Certificate of Authenticity attached to the back of the frame. The frame is complete with an acid free double mount and backing board, which protects the artwork.

Materials used:

Acrylic & ink
