This painting is from my 2014 'Secrets & Skies' series. These paintings were about the way in which open spaces bear silent witness to our thoughts, emotions and secrets. All my paintings are a reflection of that inner dialogue with the Landscape.
This particular painting is a loose view of the beach near my studio in Pembrokeshire on the west coast of Wales,UK (but that isn't really the point!) It could be anywhere, because it's about the feeling not the place.
The painting has been built up in many layers and combines a variety of techniques; staining and glazing in thin layers, gradually building up thickness and texture. Paint has been applied with brushes, knives, and sometimes fingers! It is painted, scraped, flicked, spattered and poured on, and sometimes off again, until the finished painting presented itself.
The title is a phrase from a poem, that reflects the sentiment of whispered confidences.
