Original artwork description:

This small oil painting on canvas is derived from a photograph of the crossroads in front of Southampton Civic Centre in the rain. It presents in a semi abstract manner the light from various sources such as car and traffic lights and how it is reflected in the rain soaked streets as well as how the long exposure of the camera distorts the depiction of light.

The painting uses short expressive brush marks in thick impasto paint to give a distorted, impressionistic rendering of this atmospheric landscape. The predominantly sombre blues, browns and greys being punctuated by streaks of gaudy artificial lighting.

The painting is made using oil paints on a primed canvas stretched over a wooden frame.
