Here is a new series of small works using chine colle technique to collage fragments of handprinted papers onto a heavier aid-free base sheet.
The chine colle process is an old technique of collaging to a base sheet using archival paste and then (traditionally) overprinted with an etching or relief plate.
I print plain Japanese paper (Kitakata usually) with various woodblocks that I have carved for other art-pieces. Along with these paper fragments in gorgeous garden-colored inks, I add antique bird engravings and touches of metallic patterned Asian papers.
Each design is 9"x7" with a plate mark, and is one of a kind, matted in a neutral white acid-free mat to 14x11" outer measurements, backed with foam core, and ready to frame.
acid free papers, Nori paste, acid free mat and back board.
