One of the loveliest things about becoming known as a collector of vintage ephemera are the like-minded people who introduce themselves to me. One such person, Stephen, works in my local Oxfam shop and has given me a whole bunch of wonderful sheet music that was so badly damaged it was destined for the trash.
The music manuscript fragments I have used for this little Songbird Collection comes from a leatherbound "scrapbook" of music that I think dates from the early 1800s but I can't be sure.
I keep returning to British songbirds, no apologies, I work in my garden and so they are my constant companions and muses. I decided to illustrate the antique music with some of Britain's popular songbirds.
I describe myself as both an artist and an illustrator, my initial training as a textile designer has definitely influenced me and I enjoy creating stylised animal characters.
Songbird No 25 is another Robin.... well it is Britain's favourite bird!
