Song of the Mountain (2026) Original Oil Painting by Paul Cheng
22.86 x 30.48 x 0.51cm (unframed)
£225.21
Original artwork description
In this painting, I did not want simply to describe a mountain; I wanted to express its strength and living presence through color, texture, and brushwork. I repeatedly layered, scraped, and rebuilt the paint, giving the rock formations an almost sculptural surface. Bright oranges, ochres, and golds suggest sunlit stone, while deep blues and blacks create shadow, weight, and structure. In the foreground, reds, violets, blues, and earth tones break into an increasingly abstract rhythm of rocks, water, and reflections. I wanted the landscape to remain recognizable while allowing paint, light, and the raw energy of nature to become equally important subjects.
