Artist's description:

This was apparently polite Old West slang for prostitute. This is based on an anonymous photo from the 1880's. I took some liberties with color in bringing this faded picture to life. The petticoat and camisole she wears is inspired by a frontier edict, calling for prostitutes to wear yellow to distinguish themselves from "respectable" women. Rather than consider it a badge of shame the ladies of Dodge City soon turned out in bright yellow gowns, hats and scarves, and maybe underwear as well.

Materials used:

oil paint with walnut medium, on stretched black primed canvas
