Original artwork description:

This began when I noticed my interest in a photograph of soap bubbles, and I asked myself what would happen if the surface tension never broke: would each bubble just keep ascending? That led to my decision to place the bubbles in deep space, with the light of a spiral nebula illuminating the curved surfaces. Since the idea is a bit uncanny (to say the least) I decided to include this in my series I classify as “magical realism.” The bubbles are painted realistically, and the nebula as well (at least according to images from the Hubble Deep-Space Telescope), only such a juxtaposition is impossible. 40x30x2.5 this work does not require framing (the canvas wraps around and sides are painted a shade of deep blue that matches the background). It could be framed, but I think this works best with the image carried to the edge. Signed on the back, my GJ mark is in the lower hand corner of the front. This work ships with a digitally-registered Certificate of Authenticity.

Materials used:

oil paint, varnish, wood, canvas
