A skeleton stands before a distressed copper leaf moon whilst flakes of gold leaf fall.
This piece is part of a range of paintings I am doing on the subject of religious icons. I love the rich gold and copper leaf and the way the moon has turned a vibrant turquoise in places.
The inspiration for this piece was a past trip to the beautiful art city of Florence. That trip had a profound effect on me as an artist. I fell in love with Florence and it's crumbling walls and little shops with craftsmen using gold leaf to guild antiques.
I am also inspired by ancient murals on disintegrating walls where the art becomes faded with time.
This painting is a mixed media of emulsion, oil paints, acrylic and pencil all set on a backdrop of distressed plaster and real copper and gold leaf.
This painting comes ready to hang and unframed. It is painted on a chunky canvas. I only use good quality, professional artists canvases made by Loxely gold. It has a signed certificate on the back.
