Original artwork description:

This is an original watercolour and ink painting/drawing of dusk in Greville Smyth Park, Bristol. The sky and hills have both been painted in one strong watercolour wash, which means that the white of the paper can reflect through, making the colours very clear and bright. The silhouettes of the trees are finely drawn and beautiful.

Greville Smyth Park is just around the corner from my home. I walk through it often. The plane trees around the edge have been planted close together and have grown long and skinny, with their tops merging into a single outline. They look very dramatic and elegant in the winter when they are without leaves, especially at dusk when silhouetted against a bright sky.

Colourful terraces are very much a typical feature of Bristol, and appear in lots of local art. I've drawn some of the Georgian terraces before. The backs of these little terraces feel much more lived in than the grander taller houses in other parts of the city, especially with the lights coming on in the evening.

Materials used:

It is painted/drawn in artists quality watercolours and Winsor and Newton black indian ink, on 140lb / 300g/m2 watercolour paper.
