In October of 2015 I was the “Artist in Residence” at the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore on Lake Michigan. For 3 weeks I explored the park, sketched and painted outside and interacted with park visitors. On the 2nd day of my visit I went on the park’s famous “Dune Climb”. It was an exhausting 2 mile hike of scaling 500’ high sand dunes-- 7 times!. My hardwork was rewarded however when I finally made it to Lake Michigan and discovered this shipwreck washed up on shore. According to the park rangers, this wreck appeared in 2010 when the sands shifted and uncovered it.
