Original artwork description:

I've recently been lucky enough to learn more about my family history. I come from a long line of shepherds in Cumbria and stumbled across the book ''The shepherds life ' written by my distant cousin James Rebanks. In it he describes the life and times of our mutual grandparents and their parents along with his own contemporary take on farming in the lakes.
As a result I've become fascinated by the life work and focus of the shepherd - the sheep. It's a hard life and far from glamorous but if you're made for it, as James Rebanks is, it's rewarding and satisfying.
This painting depicts two of his swaledales and is imagineared by me to place them In a wintry yet romantic setting. I'm not a shepherd and to be frank I don't have the mettle to embrace such a harsh life, so perhaps I have romanticised this image to show my respect for the harsh reality whist retaining the ethereal beauty of the pipe dream I have of living at one with the Earth in a more simple life.
It's made from oil on canvas and is 45 X 32cms. Unframed with the edges painted black so can be hung as is or framed to your taste.

Materials used:

Oil paint
