Artist's description:

This exploratory series was inspired by Assal's recent research of the structure and formation of geodes. This led to further exploration of meteorites, minerals and other textural forms that exist in outer space. A geode can take over a thousands of years to form, a process that happens in serval ways that begins when a cavity forms in a rock. As water flows through the geode, additional mineral layers are deposited in its hollow interior resulting in a cavity lined with crystalline structures.

Assal examined multiple geodes to capture their shape and texture. She was inspired to merge the shapes of these molecular crystals together with practiced techniques to create this series, mixing in new materials such as sand, bronze powder and new type of paint to create a dynamic approach.

In these paintings, texture and detail are the focal points all the while keeping in sync with her prominent style. This series is both solid and fluid; minimalist yet expressive.
