Artist's description:

64cm x 54cm x 2cm Original abstract painting

This work is a hybrid of painting and relief sculpture, created from 16 wooden ovals arranged in grid formation on a wooden panel which has then been painted with acrylics and varnished.
With this work I wanted to create a field of pure colour, built up in layers of varying tonal intensity with subtle gradations giving way to warm accents of orange. I was interested in exploring ideas of permutation and sequence in this piece and the relationship between individual elements within a series. The painting is strongly influenced by 20th century abstraction.

Materials used:

wooden panel, wooden ovals, acrylic paint, varnish

Sequential tones (Wood Relief) (2017)
