This is a plein air painting of the eastern Sierras in the Alabama Hills west of Lone Pine, CA. It was painted over the course of several mornings in April between the wind and rain storms that frequent the area in the spring. The fantastic boulder formations found throughout this U.S. Bureau of Land Management reservation have formed the scenic context for hundreds of films and advertisements. This location is near Lone Ranger Canyon, which provided the staging area and set for the Lone Ranger series starring Clayton Moore and Jay Silverheels. Easel coordinates (UTM NAD83) are:
11S 399852mE, 4051622mN. This is a unique artwork painted on location.
