I painted this portrait in a period of grief after loosing someone dear. I represented myself as I felt I was: petrified in my sorrow and pain, in resigned acceptance of dramatic life (red above) and death (black below). The white space in between, that keeps the shapes together, is the divine light.
After all these years, I still feel the sentiment which overwhelmed me then.
