Artist's description:

I was inspired by ancient Egyptian mythology, in which Thoth was often depicted as a man with the head of an ibis. He as a deity of Moon was maintaining the universe. In the later history of ancient Egypt, Thoth became heavily associated with magic, science and the World of dead. Every night, falling asleep, we seem to die in our old life, in order to wake up in the new life in the morning.

On my collage, Thoth is taking pictures of himself using a smartphone to remember how he looking today and will not look tomorrow. But it doubles, multiplies, and can never be static in every lived moment.

I used fragments of old books and catalogs that I did cut without scissors by hand only to show the process of disconnecting from our past. The painted black mat is a part of this artwork framed and ready to hung.
