Something strong and very traditionally linocut, with lots of cutmarks showing, is what I wanted here, something that would make you feel empowered wherever you hang it, as it is a strong, fearless image, no monsters under any beds here! Maybe quite masculine, but as almost everything I do is quite romantic is feels good to at times go against the current! Hang the Blackheaded Seagull behind your desk and tell the world "I can!!! I created 2 more birds in this style, a swan and an oystercatcher, see separate listings!
WHAT IS A LINOCUT?: A handprinted linocut reduction print, reduction means that as I am printing the very short edition of only 8 prints , I cut away areas to keep the color I just printed. This is quite a complicated process, great fun, as you don't really know how the print is going to turn out until the end, it is a technique I enjoy very much, as it feels quite like you are sculpting with your linocut knife and painting with your roller of ink. Experience has taught me incredibly much about this way of printing, managing the ink, using pressure, etc etc, given the choice this is my favorite way of printmaking!
