One of a pair of Crows that I made for an exhibition in 2015.
Made with the mesh from used disposable barbeque grills by simply folding and bending, sort of like origami but with wire. The legs and feet are soldered together from old bicycle wheel spokes.
I walk quite a bit and I’m lucky enough to live by the coast. For many years I have used flotsam and jetsam for art, and in 2008 I started to collect the mesh from disposable barbecues left in the park during the summer. Over time, I have developed the techniques of forming these grills into these beautiful bird sculptures.
I try to capture moments of dynamic movement and character. This sculpture came from a photograph I took of two crows fighting for scraps of food. You can read more about my bird sculptures and my other artwork over on my blog page at http://losdave.blogspot.co.uk/
