This is a unique, spontaneous, spiritual creation by me, Sarah Ashleigh.
In my work the paint represents lifes' energies and flow and I want my paintings to take the viewer to their own place within the colours and patterns. I experiment with different paints and mediums to see how they interact with each other, using gravity and air to move the paint across the canvas. I am fascinated in the crossover between science and art- I have done extensive experiments and research on paints, ingredients, formulas, etc in order to obtain the desired effect.
I am especially drawn to water and in particular the ocean, and often find myself creating pieces with fish or waves. In this piece I used glossy paint to get the appearance of water and I felt like the fish I was imagining were swimming together, following the direction of the swirl, so they were added in at a much later date, following the drying of the pour painting.
"Samudra" is a sanskrit word for the "gathering of the oceans" "sam" meaning "together" and "udra meaning "water". I love the feeling of unity in this piece, which is where it got its name.
This high quality mixed media painting (acrylic, oils and ink) is done on gallery wrapped canvas, with no need for framing, as the edges are painted. You will receive it "ready to hang", with a hook on the back.
I sign my paintings on the back, but I can sign them also on the front, by request.
Prints are also available of this piece.
