‘The Vessel' the boat can symbolise a spiritual journey on the sea of life. It can represents the human body: fragile, vulnerable and temporary – a vessel for a human spirit on an adventure called life. Eventually we return to the primordial soup of the sea, washed up on the shore as grit. Meanwhile, the eternal waves of the sea represent our next lives rolling in from the future. The materials used are oil with mixed media on a deep-edge box canvas. The painting was influenced by Jackson Pollock, Christopher Wool, Cy Twombly and Joan Mitchell.
