February 1936 marked the end of an era, Wells-next-the -sea in Norfolk replaced their old lifeboat Baltic, with a new boat, The Royal Silver Jubilee which was launched by caterpillar tractors. Thus ended the iconic sight, of horses used to pull lifeboats through the streets, and across the sands to launch in all weathers. An era when at the sound of the alarm, farmers with their horses raced to the boat-house, the first to arrive received an extra five shillings.
This painting is an original, one off work by the artist in tribute to the courage and diligence of those brave men.
