My naive and whimsical semi-abstract paintings are about self-discovery. Each piece is a marker on that inner journey. The recurring subject matters are trees, birds, and a stickman image that symbolise life, freedom, and ego respectively. Through my artworks and musings, I invite the audience to ponder whether their daily experiences are objectively real or just a dream.
All my paintings are made intuitively with regard to choice of colours, brushstrokes, and composition. The images, patterns, and designs are sourced from imagination. Sometimes, I am inspired by an external element. I do not plan in advance with sketches, drawings, or colour studies. I start with a blank canvas and let the ideas flow; thus, allowing the paintings to take flight in whichever direction they choose. Everything is visualised, outlined, and painted freehand. There are no stencils or templates used in my artworks. I do, however, use tools like rulers, tapes, and a compass for geometrical shapes. Whenever there is resistance, I pause and wait for intuitive guidance and allow creativity to flow onto to the canvas without judgment. I have little control over the creative outcomes except for the recurring trees, birds, and a stickman-like character; they represent life, liberation, and ego respectively. I never know how any of my artwork is going to turn out until the end. A work is deemed finished when the composition reaches a certain dynamic balance that feels complete.
