Artist's description:

This is a digital image of a decaying Rose. A series of finely detailed texture layers have been added to the image. Final editing consists of tonal and colour adjustments.

I have chosen these particular images for printing on canvas because they have qualities that are often seen in paintings. Each image in this collection has been created through the use of layers, direct drawing with a graphics tablet and additional editing. All the embedded layers are taken from my own macro photographic work of surface textures and often include close up details from the surface texture of my paintings. Examples of my paintings can be seen here: https://www.artfinder.com/peter-corr

Memento mori (Latin: "remember (that you have) to die" is the medieval Latin theory and practice of reflection on mortality, especially as a means of considering the vanity of earthly life and the transient nature of all earthly goods and pursuits. Memento mori has been an important part of ascetic disciplines as a means of perfecting the character, by cultivating detachment and other virtues, and turning the attention towards the immortality of the soul and the afterlife
