Artist's description:

This was taken atop Masada, in Israel. Masada, located in the Dead Sea area of the Judean Desert, is the famous and ancient fortification atop a mountain plateau, built by Herod the Great. As legend goes, a famous Jewish revolt against the Romans took place here. The Jews thought they'd be safe up so high, but the Romans started to build a road to climb the mountain. Knowing it was only a matter of time, the Jews planned a mass suicide and cast lots to see who the last man remaining would be. In modern times, it's one of Israel's most famous landscapes and tourist attractions. It's customary to climb Masada before dawn to reach the peak in time for the sunrise.
