Artist's description:

‘What makes a river so restful to people is that it doesn’t have any doubt—it is sure to get where it is going, and it doesn’t want to go anywhere else’. — (Hal Boyle)

I have painted this river – La Sevre Niortaise – at a number of places in the Poitou-Charente provence of France. It is not a large river, more of brook really, and I find it has great character and a simple charm. It was a bit warmer when I painted it than it is now, and the colours and light coming through the tress and shining off the water provided a great opportunity to lay the paint on!
