Artist's description:

Trewornan Bridge is close to my studio in Port Gaverne, Cornwall,U.K. Legend has it that the bridge is haunted by a headless horseman who has been seen riding across the bridge at night. The river Amble runs from Bodmin Moor into the sea at the Camel Estuary near Pentire Point, which can be seen in the distance in the painting. I often cross the bridge and am inspired by the light reflecting off the river at different times of day This was painted in the morning with beautiful silver light reflected by the river and a storm coming in from the Atlantic ocean beyond. I used Acrylic paint which dries faster than Oil, to quickly capture the unique cloud formation, dramatic reflected light and very atmospheric location. The painting is characterised by bold brushstrokes and 'expressionist' application of the paint which catches the drama of the haunted bridge, the stormy weather and the rugged Cornish landscape.

Materials used:

Acrylic paint. Impasto mediums.
