My work generally begins with a somewhat straightforward portrait, something a bit like this, and always paying attention to lines, shape and form. Sometimes I have a plan, an end-goal, but other times the work takes on a life of its own. I had in mind something much more elaborate for this portrait. In fact, I completed a much more elaborate and painterly version of this image, which I really love. Somewhere in that process, the image looked like this. When I was "finished" with the piece, I was still drawn to the image at this stage of its existence, so I played a bit more to create a final image from it, hence Renaissance Woman I and Renaissance Woman II.
