Artist's description:

30″ x 40″ Mixed media on canvas.

This is the first painting in my sketch series. I used a combination of watercolour, acrylic and Gesso. Working with thick Gesso to create the first, textured layer allows the darker pigments in the top layers, to get caught in the groves and pockets. I love using this technique to provide depth, the perception of age and detail.

This painting was inspired by my desire to do something different as well as the Michelangelo sketch exhibit that was/is here at the AGO in Toronto this year (2014).

Materials used:

Acrylic and watercolour on canvas.

Reflection Sketch No.1 (2014)
