Although I have painted flowers in the past, they rarely feature as the subject of a painting so I thought that I should correct this state of affairs! I love sunflowers, but I think I'm right in saying that one or two other artists have painted them rather well already! I decided to paint an amaryllis instead, as I like the shape of the plant as well as the flower which, in this case, is a beautiful red colour. The background is 'distressed': I wanted it to have interest, but not to take attention away from the subject.
