In this artwork, I tried to recreate the impression of a close-up portrait in charcoal, using traditional etching techniques. It was quite challenging, and required a lot of time and effort! When doing life drawing, I really enjoy being very close to the model and recreating the volume using light and shade. This work is paired with another etching called "In Deep Thought". These two works explore the idea of intimacy. Before confiding in her secret, the young woman tries to recollect her thoughts, and wonders whether the friend she is going to talk to can be trusted.
