This is an original silk screen done in the 80's.This is one of the first original granite buildings on the high street of Aberdeen: Union Street. It was the Advocates Hall (law offices/court) and there were sleds and coaches to take the lawyers to and from the courthouse. It was converted into a theatre in the 1920's and named for Queen Victoria, who loved coming up and stopping here on her way to Balmoral Castle.
When I lived in Aberdeen, they would shut down the main street and you knew it was the Queen Mother, doing her shopping on her way up to Balmoral.
I also had to pay double for a pair of green wellies
in the only camping sort of shop, when the same pair in black (which would have been much more practical since I was go to be shoveling manure) was half the price. I asked what the difference was and the shop owner blushed scarlet. He explained that Prince Charles had brought up a young woman to propose to at Balmoral, and she had been wearing the green pair. Hadn't I seen it in the papers? Well, we all know how that turned out. But yes, I bought the green ones, thinking it was funny because I did not have a clue.
The cinema was closed the five years I was there, and down the street was the only record shop (I think that was its name actually) and as I was driving in the first time I saw this cool looking girl with flaming orange hair standing on the steps leading up to the front door. I thought, well there's some night life here after all. It was Annie Lennox. She is from Aberdeen. It was the only time I ever saw her, because it really was a small fishing town growing like crazy because of North Sea oil, and she was going other places.
