Artist's description:

The morning doves in my yard were the unwitting models for this sculpture. I see them every day and enjoy their round cooing in the morning, a sound I've grown up with. Sometimes I use binoculars to see every detail while I take sketches of them that will latter help me decide what dove will fit best into the log I'm using. I wish to capture the plump and roundness of the dove when it fluffs its feathers up and looks so luxuriously worm and sleepy. I love the unusual compositions I can achieve with the preening doves. The varieties of shapes are exciting for me. While preening the dove is meticulously cleaning and arranging each feather to lay in its proper order. Everything about the morning dove seems calm and peaceful.
Hand carved in Tree of Heaven wood. It is a light weight, medium grain wood and an invasive species in Michigan. We have alot of them on our home property. They grow quickly and several of ours have fallen in the last couple of years so I have been harvesting the wood. When the wood is left outside for at least a year they develop their beautiful spalted patterns.
Original one of a kind wood sculpture. Hand carved. Sealed with two coats of spar urethane.
Approximate size: 10” long, 4” tall, 3 1/2 " wide.
