Portugal Harvest on Azulejo Time – Apples
Red apples lie scattered across a surface of old Portuguese azulejo tiles, their deep, glowing color standing in vivid contrast to the faded blues and weathered patterns beneath them. A small branch with green leaves brings a sense of freshness to the composition, as if the fruit has only just been gathered from the tree.
The aged tiles, marked by time and softened by layers of history, create a quiet backdrop for the richness of the harvest. Their imperfect surfaces and delicate blue ornaments speak of old Portuguese homes, sunlit kitchens, and the beauty found in everyday objects that have been loved and used for generations.
Painted in transparent layers of watercolor, this work brings together the freshness of nature and the enduring character of traditional azulejo. It is a celebration of simple abundance - a moment where vibrant fruit, weathered surfaces, and the poetry of Portugal meet.
Part of the ongoing series Portugal Harvest on Azulejo Time, this artwork is painted in watercolor on paper.
