Original artwork description:

Some colourful poppies from a Christchurch gardens. I watched these bloom in my studio, it was amazing how quickly they opened, and how quickly they closed. Towards the end of painting the purple poppy, the light began to fade from my studio, and the flower began to fold up, so I had to paint quickly and to catch it. Flowers can hardly be called still life!

In the Little Flower series all the paintings are on 5 x 8 inch board, sealed with traditional rabbit skin glue, and primed with a traditional oil based primer. I use oil paint with a walnut oil medium and brush cleaner, so no turpentine is used in the painting. Each work is painted from life from flowers growing in Christchurch where I live. Each painting comes ready to hang on your wall. They are not framed as the board is thick enough to look good on it's own, the sides are usually painted the same as the background colour, or with a colour to set it off. I hope these little paintings go out and bring much joy to people all over the world.
