Original artwork description:

'Art takes nature as its model.' (Aristotle)

These poppies were on the side of the road as I was riding my bicycle from the campsite to the painting festival tent at the Noordwijk Schilderfest, and after the third day, I stopped and painted them. I sometimes forget how flat the landscape can be in Holland, and the depth towards the horizon was vast. There had been a lot of rain during the week ( I was washed out of my campsite!) and the sky was still an interesting combination of greys and blues of varying tones and temperatures, so I just tried to put them down as such.

Materials used:

oil paint
