I love colour yet with such strength is the need for subtlety as a counterbalance. Muted colours roam through this piece, sitting side by side with their stronger counterparts. Muted does not mean dull though: these calmer colours bring a much needed peace to my work.
This painting is based on a visit to Sissinghurst Castle in July when the garden is effusive, glorious and intense.
