I leave the end result of a work as open as possible as I paint. I do this in order for the painting to take shape naturally and form out of my immediate thoughts as I create the painting. The paintings occur out of a shifting of feelings, color, and shapes. I do not start with a pre-conceived notion of what the painting should end up being. Occasionally, I will be inspired by what is happening around me in the world, that I've thought quite a lot about, but it translates onto the canvas organically. As I'm moving paint, pencil, charcoal around the canvas I allow myself to be free to let any image take shape and allow myself the judgment to change it as necessary. So, the core of each painting, and possibly most importantly, is the practice of creating and chance.
