The peony is among the longest-used flowers in Eastern culture and is one of the smallest living creature national emblems in China. Along with the plum blossom, it is a traditional floral symbol of China. It is also known as flower of riches and honor or king of the flowers, and is used symbolically in Chinese art. In 1903, the Qing Dynasty declared the peony as the national flower.
I was a stamp collector when I was young. I did not get a special stamp - Fragrant Peony which I missed it until now. This painting was created to remember my love for that stamp never belonged to me.
In Chinese Gong-bi painting, we use basic composition and apply different color Gong-bi painting technique and more changes base on request from collectors. So, one composition can be painted multiple times with changes based on the different request. Collectors could request add one flower, or put butterfly, or more leaves, different colors, and anything they want to be included in the painting. I know this is different than western painting. However according to Chinese Gong-bi painting, each such painting is original and it is one of its kind. This has been applied thousands of years ago when ancient painting artist painted their artwork, they use basic composition and work on the painting base on the request. There will be lots of changes in one basic composition, like details, the color, painting technique and etc.

The painting is not mounted or framed. The painting is in excellent condition but I need to let you know below fact to avoid any misunderstanding:
The painting will be folded and securely sealed in water proofed protection. Because of the thinness of Shuan Paper, when you open the package, you will see some folds and hairline creases. Once the painting is mounted properly, the fold lines will be gone completely.
