This is one of the 40 images from my solo exhibition "Dancing on the wings of freedom" (Lithgow, NSW, Australia, 2016) which featured small winged and nectar-drinking creatures: butterflies, bees, dragonflies, cicadas and Australian native birds. All prints in this collection are a limited edition of 25.
The Orange Tiger or the Wanderer (Lat. Danaus Plexippus) is an American butterfly, known originally as the American Monarch, which became domesticated in Australia in the late 19th century. In this close-up image taken in the Blue Mountains, NSW, it rests on an apricot leaf. The veins of the leaves in the foreground replicate the black and white patterns of the butterfly's wings, creating a rather unusual composition for this kind of insect photography.
Most of my images are available in a range of sizes and on different kinds of photographic and fine art paper, including Inkjet Pro Fine Art Paper320gsm, Inkjet Hahnemuele Bright White Rag Paper 310gsm, Inkjet Canson Rag Photographique Paper 310gsm, and Inkjet Hahnemuele Museum Etching Paper 350gsm. Please ask me if you wish to place a special order and I will do my best to fulfil your wishes. Please note that prints on fine art paper will be shipped flat to avoid damage to the extra sensitive print, which may slightly increase the shipping cost. I will provide you with a special shipping quote prior to your placing the order if applicable.
